Luke has been a resident of West Hampton Dunes since 1999, shortly after the town was founded. He was raised here, and grew up planting dune grass and installing snow fencing to make sure this place was strong enough to weather any storm. After recently battling stage 3 lymphoma, Luke is dedicated to serving the community he loves.
As your Trustee, Luke McGinty will defend the coastline and the value of your homes. He will fight to make sure a fair and vibrant West Hampton Dunes is here for your kids, and the generation next to come!
You may have seen Luke on the volleyball court near Beach Access 6, kayaking in the bay, or jogging along the shoreline. If you haven’t met him yet, he’d love to hear from you to understand your priorities! You can get in touch directly by phone at (914)-787-0192 (text or call) or by email at lukekmcginty@gmail.com.
Westhampton Dunes was founded for one reason: to keep your homes safe from the ocean. As a 3rd generation resident of Dune Road, Luke McGinty understands the unique challenges that face this community.
Luke knows the value of snow fencing, because he’s installed it himself and watched the protective dunes grow year after year as a result. He has tended the dune by planting grass and gathering old Christmas trees to catch sand during the winter winds. He was here during Hurricane’s Sandy and Irene, sandbagging the public walkway at Beach Access 6 to protect against the risk of rising floodwaters. Luke has seen firsthand what it takes to keep our dunes strong.
No matter what we do, the 50-year storm and the 100-year storm are coming. Your village government exists to manage that risk, plan for it, and muster resources to preserve the value of your property when that day finally comes. Luke McGinty is an active planner and a long-term thinker. As an experienced energy finance professional, Luke has managed risk for multi-billion dollar energy generation and transmission assets. He also has extensive experience collaborating with state governments on the deployment of millions in capital for the development of physical infrastructure.
As Trustee, Luke McGinty will lead an aggressive, proactive process to strengthen our shoreline and protect Westhampton Dunes. He is a solution-minded collaborator who will work alongside our governmental partners in Southampton, Riverhead, Albany, and Washington. He will develop a comprehensive village-wide strategy to keep your homes safe, and manage the real risks that come with owning property in a shorefront community. Luke McGinty will be open-minded in evaluating the possibility of installing new jetties, deploying new shorebreak infrastructure devices, and using other solutions to grow a strong, living shoreline. Luke will guarantee sand pumping continues and that future “nourishment” events benefit all residents fairly.

"I am looking forward to working with Luke as a Trustee. Our Trustee board needs fresh ideas, new energy and a renewed dedication to preserving our barrier beach for the next generation.
Luke has a clear focus on service to his community and has no financial conflicts of interest here. As you all know, our new team has gotten a lot accomplished this past year. I have focused on my area of expertise, finance. Working closely with Liz Lidvit our new expert in village finance has been a pleasure for me. I also appreciate the hard work put in by our Clerk Robin Santora.
What this experience shows me is that building a strong team gets things done.
Help build our Trustees Team
Vote for Luke McGinty"
- Howard Freedman, Trustee of West Hampton Dunes

Luke McGinty is an experienced young professional with senior decision making experience in renewable energy, finance, technology, government, and media. He has tackled complex and evolving problems at Amazon, Meta , NextEra Energy, the Bloomberg 2020 Presidential Campaign, and Good Morning America.
Luke is excited to bring a decisive, youthful energy to the governance of West Hampton Dunes. In an age of rising sea-levels and constant policy uncertainty, it is important your Trustee is able to adapt quickly to new problems while keeping a long-term perspective.
Luke McGinty will be in the Dunes for decades to come. There is no better person to manage the long-term trajectory of this community, and guarantee this place stays safe and beautiful for you and your kids to enjoy.
Luke battled stage 3 lymphoma in 2024, undergoing six rounds of chemotherapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering this past fall and into the start of 2025. With the support of friends and family in the Dunes, he is proud to say he is now in remission as of this February.
Being diagnosed with cancer is not something anyone plans for, but it does force you to focus on what’s really important. Luke has gotten through this recent crisis with renewed clarity. He is excited to spend time with his family and his loving girlfriend. He can’t wait for the summer sun and the first long swim of the 2025 season.
But more than anything, he is determined to serve this community. Luke is running to make sure West Hampton Dunes is here for generations to come. With the confidence of someone who’s overcome adversity, Luke will be a fearless Trustee on your behalf, committed to upholding fair laws for all constituents, fiscal responsibility, common-sense good governance, and long-term solutions.
Luke McGinty worked on the Communications Strategy team for the Bloomberg 2020 Presidential campaign. Michael Bloomberg built a team of innovative leaders from across the political spectrum. His campaign was staffed with experienced executives from the worlds of business, technology, media, and government. Luke McGinty worked closely with members of the former Bloomberg Mayoral administration, including former Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey.
When Luke asked these Bloomberg veterans why they’d volunteered to come along for another ride with their old boss, what he heard were stories about a no-nonsense leader with a practical philosophy on good government.
“When you would drive around with Mike [Bloomberg], he would notice things that were wrong with the city. And then he would actually make sure something got done about it. He’d check in, the week after, the month after, six months or a year later. He was constantly moving, making things better little by little. After twelve years with Mike Bloomberg as Mayor, things just worked better in New York City.”
- paraphrase from a former Bloomberg Deputy Mayor
Luke McGinty aims to bring that same practical, bipartisan, no-nonsense approach to serving you as Trustee of West Hampton Dunes. Unlike a lot of villages, we have overlapping spheres of influence from the town of Southampton, the Water Authority, Suffolk County, New York State, and the national government. You deserve a Trustee who is personable, determined, hardworking, curious, and easy to work with. Luke McGinty plans to serve this community for the long-term. He will invest in relationships and get things done for you, year after year after year.
